Non-profit consulting

In today’s industry, there is both a greater need and potential for artists to diversify their careers. There is so much opportunity for organizations to be “artist-run,” that is, conceived and developed by performing artists themselves.  My experience has taught me that working in the non-profit sphere doesn’t take away from your artistry as a performer; it enhances it. I have supported and led performing artists into the development of their career in the non-profit sector, including supporting them in the conceptualization and launch of their own companies, festivals, and artistic projects. I can offer specific coaching on the nuts and bolts of building and running a non-profit to high-level development of an idea.

Our organization, Fifth Wall Performing Arts, contacted Danielle Wright, founder of Opera MODO for help as we begin our journey as a new performing arts organization in Southeast Michigan. Danielle, with their experience navigating the arts non-profit world, was able to guide our organization through our infancy. Xer ability to listen and provide sound advice in an accessible way, was immensely helpful when it came to our organization first encountering the often intimidating structures and what-to-do’s of nonprofits.

Project Architect

My years as a mentor, colleague, and friend to artists have demonstrated that artists are not “one size fits all.” They are dynamic, creative, and multi-faceted. I consult artists as they explore these many facets, turning their ideas into practical career strategy. We, as artists, are inherently absorbent of our surroundings, and often inspired. Thus, we should not be bound by one medium, or even one method of making ends meet. I join forces with your internal inspiration, guiding you to build steps to realize it as a tangible addition to your life.

Danielle came to speak to my class during my undergraduate about her experiences with Opera MODO. Xer enthusiasm and knowledge were electrifying and I learned how important it is to provide a space where everyone has opportunities to shine as well how to creatively bring an audience to a less accessible medium. During their residency, they described how their company was going to perform a Paula Deen opera while offering a selection of food from local bakeries and I thought this was the most brilliant idea. Danielle tells it like it is and sees potential in everything.

Collaboration Station

Think of it as the “Hinge” of artistic collaboration. Behind every artistic project is a team of minds possessing complimentary skills. I help you identify what these necessary skills are, who possesses them, and how to get in touch to realize your project. In addition, I offer leadership coaching and mediation, working with you and/or your team to create a balanced, safe, and inclusive environment for all collaborators.

Throughout my career, Danielle has identified my strengths and nurtured them. They have not only encouraged me to cultivate and pursue a multi-faceted career; they have given me practical and effective strategies to realize it. When I met Danielle, I was simply healing my relationship to my instrument, unsure of how a career could take shape. Several years later, under xer coaching, I co-founded a festival, took an original performance to an international festival, and have built confidence to pursue the many avenues that compose an enriching career.

Working with Danielle has been one of the most fruitful experiences of my career. As well as being an amazing and supportive mentor, they are a genuinely warm and welcoming person. They have been a very important advisor for me, helping me develop skills to thrive as an early-career artist. Danielle has gone beyond to help me explore new career paths and foster these skills in a comfortable setting. Xe will always push you to try more and better your skills while being a constant source of encouragement and support.
